Sweet and Sour

Sweet and Sour

6x6 Acrylic on canvas

When my mother in law was declining with Alzheimer’s, we all too our turn sitting with her. I set this up in the dining room and attempted to paint it during one of my shifts. I never finished that one, but wanted to revisit this set up. It reminded me of the sweet time I was able to spend with her. She was a blessing to our family.

Fruit Salad

Fruit Salad

5x7 Acrylic on canvas

This is part of my series of still life paintings I am creating. I am painting from life and from photos. This is from both. I set up the fruit on one of my dinner plates with great lighting. After a couple of hours they were calling me to eat them. So I did and destroyed my set up.

Meranda Among the Crape Myrtle

Meranda Among the Crape Myrtles

24x18 oil on canvas

This painting is a a portrait of my great niece, Meranda.  I started a series of the children in my family last year  and continue to paint them. They are a constant source of inspiration.

During the month of February I am highlighting paintings with a splash of red in them. This is also to remind you of a group show I am participating in with the Lake Granbury Art Association. This is not part of the show, but is still available for purchase.

For the Love of Fishing

For the Love of Fishing

20x16 oil on linen canvas

I'm pleased to say this painting has been selected to show at Dutch Art Gallery during their fall show "All You Need is Love" .

The show opens Saturday, December 4th. Stayed tuned for reception information.

Since the beginning of the year, I set a goal to paint the children in my family.

This is my great niece, Kylie. Her grandfather loves to be outside fishing or hunting. He is passing on the love to his grandchildren. As soon as he posted this photo of her with her prize catch, I knew I wanted to paint it. It just seemed to fit in with the theme of the show "All You Need is Love." I loved everything about this, from her t-shirt to the fish and lovely lake behind her. Painting it was pure joy.

Jim

Jim

10 x8 oil on canvas panel

This is a 2 hour painting I did at our drawing group. We meet up at the Shanley House with Lake Granbury Art Association once a week. Models normally sit for 20 minute sessions, 10 minute breaks for 3 hours. This was Jim's first time to model for us. He stated it was very relaxing and a good experience. We are always looking for volunteers!

I continue on my quest to improve my portraits and set a goal to paint the kids in my family. This is my great niece, Sadie. When she visits we keep her on the move playing. We were taking a break and she was resting on the table. I snapped a picture and knew I wanted to paint it. She was having a two thumbs up day.

Anna

Anna 20x16 oil on canvas

I started the new year with a challenge to paint more portraits. It was a natural choice to paint kids in my family. I have been saving reference photos for years.

This is sweet Anna celebrating at family birthday party in 2018.

It brought back fond memories of family time at the pool.

Walter Eating Watermelon

Walter Eating Watermelon

10x8 oil on canvas

The new year brought on a self made challenge to paint the children in my family. I have been saving reference photos for a while and are finally ready to use them. It is hard to get a good photo of this kiddo because he is always on the move. Catching him being idle eating the watermelon was a golden opportunity.
