Comanche Peak Color

I met a few friends at the Lake Baptist Church parking lot to paint. It is one of the highest points in Granbury and has great views of Comanche Peak. There are views all around and many painting opportunities. The weather has been incredible and the fall colors are starting to show. It was fun to get out there and enjoy the opportunity.

Roche’s Point Lighthouse

I had the pleasure of painting this iconic lighthouse as a commission. My sister took a cruse through the British Isles and requested a painting for her travel mate.
This is located in entrance to Cork Harbour, Whitegate, County Cork, Ireland. Originally constructed in 1817.
This painting has sold, but I am always open discussing a commission to recreate lasting memorise.

It is so calming to set in the garden and watch the birds feed on the blooming flowers. The hummingbirds are a regular and fun to capture on canvas. Painted with texture and soft soothing colors in the alla prima fashion. Painting wet on wet is another term for painting in one session.

Big Texas Sky

I was drawn to this dramatic sky and knew for a long time I would paint it. I find the changing cloud formation almost abstract and an endless source of inspiration. The small red house is one of my favorites to paint.It is located in a rural area close to home. It has big sky and is surrounded by acres of land.

Wild About Pink

I created this in the studio after a plein air session at Benbrook Lake. This was in late April and the views were an endless source of inspiration. Our friend Doug, went out before and took photos of the changing landscape. The cluster of hot pink Desert Indian paint brush stood out and needed to be painted.

Dazzling Display

This was painted on location at Benbrook Lake. It’s a familiar spot and one we frequently go to. Especially in the spring time when the meadow to the lake is filled with beautiful blankets of color. The star of the day was the gaillardia flower, also know as Indian Blanket. We were warned by Doug to bring our cadmium red light and that was all I saw.

I created this on Lake Granbury at the De Cordova Bend Park on a fabulous Friday morning. Thank goodness for my friends who met me there, but also had an extra canvas. I forget my box of canvases! I almost painted on the empty cardboard box I did have.
It was cloudy when we started, but turned into a warm sunny day, changing the light significantly. Painting outside can be challenging but also so inspiring.

This was inspired from painting on location. This location is minutes from my house and a hidden gem. I wanted to recreate the calming time spent painting there. I used a palette knife, adding texture and depth focusing on the blues of the water. I love the ever changing flow of a small creek.

I was fortunate to paint giant sunflowers on location this year. I have been painting them in my dreams ever since. I was looking for patterns, shapes and movement in this landscape. Using a palette to introduce texture and color in the sky is what I imagined.
