I created this in anticipation of spring in Texas. It is sixty days away, if you were wondering! The wildflowers between Ft Worth and Granbury cover the ground like a blanket. It used to be all rural, but over time is being developed. I’ll always cherish the drive to Ft. Worth in the spring time. It is beautiful and always changing.

A Calm Day on the Lake

It is that time of the year when the seagulls winter over on the lake. It is such a treat to see them swoop and sway in the wind. I painted this in the studio from previous visits. When I took a break and went outside, I discovered the neighbors feeding them right outside my studio. More models to paint from. I get excited everytime!

Rabbits Hiding out

Imagine our surprise with this bunny bounced over to us while out painting. The sweet scent of the wildflowers must have attracted him. We kept our quiet presence and continued painting. By the time he made it to this large canvas, he multiplied. This was painted with the palette knife and colors that make me happy.

Fall Blessings

I was so appreciative of the time spent outdoors painting with my buddies in Benbrook. The fall leaves were popping with an array of colors.

Thanksgiving day is a time to reflect and recognize how lucky I am.

Show off

Harry the Heron is spotted on our dock frequently . We caught him fishing from one of our favorite places on the lake.  It’s a good place to catch sand bass.  I was lucky to see him spread his wings and capture his image with my camera.

Snow on the Prairie

We painted at the Nature Center recently. I was please to see the fields covered in a blanket of white. The plant “snow on the prairie” was in full bloom. The early morning sun cast a light on the landscape that glowed.

Cruising Along

Zinnia Feeding

It is so calming to set in the garden and watch the birds feed on the blooming flowers. The hummingbirds are a regular and fun to capture on canvas. Painted with texture and soft soothing colors in the alla prima fashion. Painting wet on wet is another term for painting in one session.

Big Texas Sky

I was drawn to this dramatic sky and knew for a long time I would paint it.  I find the changing cloud formation almost abstract and an endless source of inspiration. The small red house is one of my favorites to paint.It is located in a rural area close to home. Wild About Pink

I created this in the studio after a plein air session at Benbrook Lake. This was in late April and the views were an endless source of inspiration. Our friend Doug, went out before and took photos of the changing landscape. The cluster of hot pink Desert Indian paint brush stood out and needed to be painted.

Dazzling Display

This was painted on location at Benbrook Lake. It’s a familiar spot and one we frequently go to. Especially in the spring time when the meadow to the lake is filled with beautiful blankets of color. The star of the day was the gaillardia flower, also know as Indian Blanket. We were warned by Doug to bring our cadmium red light and that was all I saw.

Natural Design

I met up with friends at Benbrook Lake on Tuesday morning. The forecast called for a sunny day, but when I arrived it was very much gray and cloudy. The gray overcast skies makes the colors sing. Halfway through painting this, the sun broke through the clouds and changed the shadows and color. I was attracted to this natural ditch filled with an array of wildflowers.

We wrapped this up and went to Doug’s house for lunch in the garden. Lunch was followed by a critique session. It is helpful to get feedback and suggestions for improvement.

I created this on Lake Granbury at the De Cordova Bend Park on a fabulous Friday morning. Thank goodness for my friends who met me there, but also had an extra canvas. I forget my box of canvases! I almost painted on the empty cardboard box I did have.

It was cloudy when we started, but turned into a warm sunny day, changing the light significantly. Painting outside can be challenging but also so inspiring.

Winter Berries

We are experiencing an early spring and I was anxious to get out and paint. I met up with friends at the Lake Granbury Master Gardens on Friday. I didn’t expect to see any color and was surprised to find this Possumhaw Holly tree filled with warm reds and oranges. The sun was bright and cast wonderful shadows. It was the weather man’s pick day of the week. Mine too!

Misty Morning
