Lily Life

Lily Life

My wonderful husband knows I love to receive flowers on Valentines Day. He is fateful in this annual tradition. This is a still life from a past Valentine’s Day arrangement. I started a still life series working in acrylics last year. It was a fun challenge.

I will have this and a variety of paintings at a Pop Up Show with Heron House Gallery, March 9th. Save the date and watch for more details to follow.

Sun Dappled Azalea

Sun Dappled Azaleas 16x20 oil on canvas

We attended a wedding in the Japanese Gardens in Ft. Worth. We arrived just as the sun was setting and casting a golden light on everything. This was in early March, so a lot of the spring bushes were in bloom. It was a magical walk through the gardens to join the wedding party.

This painting is available for purchase.

Winter Roses

Winter Roses

14x11 Acrylic on linen

I shared the process of Winter Roses on social media and feel the calming effect painting has on me. It is so satisfying to develop a painting and see the results. I plucked these beauties out of my garden before the winter vortex and cold temperatures set in. When I paint from life I feel a sense of urgency. It’s a time to observe, document and executive a pleasing visual combination.

Light Tone

Light Tones

8x10 oil on linen

I created this at Benbrook Lake on Wednesday. I met up with friends on the coolest morning we’ve had in a while. The promise was 68 degrees, but in reality it was in the low seventies. It was still a splendid time to be outside painting. Some may see this scene as unappealing, but I found the morning light was casting a warm glow on the landscape.

Hot Summer Sunflowers

Hot Summer Sunflowers

6x6 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

My sunflowers are the only thing blooming around here and make the perfect models. Oven like temperatures make painting in the studio a great option. Setting up a still life with light streaming in made this stain glass vase glow. My sunflowers sure brighten the day.

Golden Tops

Golden Tops

Traveling to Colorado is one of my favorite places to visit and paint. This was inspired from a small plein air piece I painted while there. The aspen trees were surrounded by fall colors and cooler temperatures. As we experience the blazing heat of summer, its nice to dream of fall weather and cooler temperatures.

Pixel Pitchers

Pixel Pitchers with Sunflowers

24x30 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

I am a sucker for sunflowers! The blue pitchers and vases made the colors pop! I created this from a small painting I created from a set up on my patio. The smaller version is available at Assemblage Art Gallery in Buda.

I worked on the larger version all year! Now that my sunflowers are blooming again I am inspired to paint more! Ha Ha

Color Impresssions

Color Impressions

I drove around looking for inspiration in Waxahachie. I spotted this display of potted plants. The bright textured pots and contrasting flowers caught my eye. I wanted to get the homeowners permission to paint their lovely display. I could hear music coming from the back yard and tracked down Jacob. He was up on a ladder preparing to paint the house. He was gracious and allowed me to set up in his front yard and paint away.

This was inspired from the explosion of wild flowers this year. I was especially drawn to the colorful phlox. It is incredible to see these growing in the wild. The splashes of blue bonnets were a nice contrast.
