Have you ever visited the flower farm? I spent Saturday morning at High Hope Ranch in Glen Rose.  I took my time and walked the garden selecting a balance of warm and cool toned color blooms.  They have a gorgeous selection of dried flowers, sunflowers, cock’s comb, blue mink, zinnia’s and others to pick. This ranch is located behind Fossil Rim In Glen Rose. It was a lovely way to spend the morning. (It self serve, so bring cash!)

I painted this in the shade on my front porch with a fan blasting a breeze.

It was another great morning painting with friends at the Acton Nature Center of Hood County Friday morning. The clouds were moving with rain west of us, but a good group showed up regardless of the weather We all love the opportunity to paint on location. It's a wonderful chance to get out of the studio and hang with like minded people.
I was out to experiment and started with a black canvas and blocked in shapes with colors of the sky and landscape. It is filled with lots of texture and yummy colors and all for fun!

Cedar Tree Light

It is great to have friends that will wake up early just too paint. We met at Rough Creek park Friday morning to get a head start before the heat kicked in. Even though we had to battle a strong breeze and had to hold onto our easels for dear life, we had a blast painting together under the shade trees.

Garden Queens

I received a packet of wild flower seeds at a birthday party for Charlotte. She is our 1 year niece and has a love for all things outside. Thanks to the spring rains I’ve had a variety of surprise flowers blooming. The shadows of the geraniums and the queen anne’s lace were what inspired this plein air piece.

Across the Pond

Members of the Lake Granbury Art Association joined up to paint from the Pecan Plantation marina’s restaurant, The Pit . We set up in the shade under the trees and enjoyed beautiful views of Lake Granbury. Between the shade and strong breeze we enjoyed painting in this location. They make the best brisket around. Twisted Creek

This was inspired from a drive around Benbrook Lake. The twist and turns of this low lying creek bed was appealing to me. The normally dry creek bed actually had water in it. I painted it with expressive strokes and dynamic colors using a large palette knife.

Vibrant Hardy Hibiscus

The spectacular hardy hibiscus certainly got my attention at the Master’s Garden in Granbury. The flowers are as big as a dinner plate with blooms 12 inches wide. It stopped us all in our tracks. The group all painted in the direction of these stunning plants.

Garden Delight

I had the opportunity to paint at the Hidden Garden tour of Ft. Worth. The garden I painted in was small, intimate and very charming. The owners had a collection of vases and eggs on top of the grill area that caught my eye.

I sketched this out with a brush, but quickly pick up the palette knife for added texture and color. It was a delight to spend time in this amazing space.

Red Jewels

A plein air study of the poppies at the Lake Granbury Master’s Garden center inspired this painting. Seeing the poppies in the garden are swoon worthy and a delight to see. They are the red jewels in the garden.

I painted this in the studio , building up color and texture with a palette knife . It felt like the flowers were blowing in the wind and dancing.

Pecan Valley

The gentle flow of this creek draws me in and makes me want to spend time here. Painting on location years ago provided the inspiration. The overgrowth of bushes and trees has changed and it is hard to see this beautiful view now. This is located near the dam on Lake Benbrook and one of my favorite places to paint.

The Glory a Gray Day

The goal was to paint a sunrise on Beach road in Benbrook. It was a slow start for the sunrise, but it did make it’s appearance as I was leaving, but all was not lost. It was a lesson in finding luminous, rich colors. The glory of the color gray, makes any color pop with the contrast. I quickly mixed a gray to add to most of my sky colors and introduced the color of the landscape in the sky. It was another great morning, painting on location with sweet friends.
