Vibrant Hardy Hibiscus

Vibrant Hardy Hibiscus

9×12 oil on canvas

The spectacular hardy hibiscus certainly got my attention at the Master’s Garden in Granbury. The flowers are as big as a dinner plate with blooms 12 inches wide. It stopped us all in our tracks. The group all painted in the direction of these stunning plants.

Behind the Scene

Behind the Scene

7×14 plein air oil painting

Painted on location at the Lake Granbury Master’s Garden. This is a place I go for tranquility and peace. I positioned my easel facing the area behind the garden. It has a low creek bed with wild flowers and trees creating a nice design. I used a large palette knife to create big messy strokes .

Garden Delights

Garden Delight

7×14 oil

I had the opportunity to paint at the Hidden Garden tour of Ft. Worth. The garden I painted in was small, intimate and very charming. The owners had a collection of vases and eggs on top of the grill area that caught my eye.

I sketched this out with a brush, but quickly pick up the palette knife for added texture and color. It was a delight to spend time in this amazing space.

Red Jewels

Red Jewels

22×28 oil on canvas

A plein air study of the poppies at the Lake Granbury Master’s Garden center inspired this painting. Seeing the poppies in the garden are swoon worthy and a delight to see. They are the red jewels in the garden.

I painted this in the studio , building up color and texture with a palette knife . It felt like the flowers were blowing in the wind and dancing.

This is the result of painting at Chandor Gardens. The climbing roses were at their peak and glowed in the morning light. I met up with other artist to capture the gorgeous color of spring. Spring Dreaming

Spring Dreaming

8×10 oil on canvas

I painted on location at Beach Road on Benbrook Lake recently. I was dreaming of a beautiful landscape filled with an array of colors. The color spots were sparse, but there So, I used my artist license and created a landscape filled with my favorite colors. Being immersed in nature is the ultimate dream.

Pecan Valley View

Pecan Valley

22×28 oil on canvas

The gentle flow of this creek draws me in and makes me want to spend time here. Painting on location years ago provided the inspiration. The overgrowth of bushes and trees has changed and it is hard to see this beautiful view now. This is located near the dam on Lake Benbrook and one of my favorite places to paint.

Finding the Blues

Finding the Blues

12×9 oil on canvas

To celebrate the first day of spring, we met up to paint at the Master Gardens in Granbury. It is still a bit early for the spring flowers, but I did find a patch of bluebonnets to paint. It was a relaxing time painting with nice spring weather and not too much crazy wind.

Wild Texas Cactus

Wild Texas Cactus

Cactus plants are part of the Texas landscape and have interesting shapes. The flowers added an extra bonus. It was a play of warm against cool that makes this painting pop. I painted this in the studio, with a focus on soft color combination.

Warm Winter Tones

Warm Winter Tones

11×14 oil on canvas

I am so grateful for the spring like temperatures and took advantage of this gorgeous weather. A few friends met up at the De Cordova Bend park on Lake Granbury. Painting on location is a great way to gather information for future paintings. It is helpful with developing new ideas and color choices. After painting a few of us hiked to the back side of the dam. This offers another plein air opportunity.

Drenched in Color

Drenched in Color

16×20 oil on linen

I created this in the studio after painting in Benbrook along Pecan Valley area. This is below the dam and has a small trickling through the landscape. I’ve painting in the area many times before and created this from a ten year old photo. Now the overgrowth of trees, bushes and grasses has blocked most of this view. It was fun to explore the design and color of this familiar scene.

Lakeside Sunny Spot

Lakeside and Sunny

24×18 oil on linen

Painting on location along the banks of Lake Benbrook inspired this studio piece. When I arrived the sun was rising, filing the sky with glorious color. I couldn’t paint fast enough to catch all the changes. The sunflowers were blooming and everything seemed to glow in the morning light. It was fun to explore this subject on a larger canvas.

Deep in the Heart of Texas

Deep in the Heart of Texas

This is a commission I completed and delivered recently. Our cousin, Julie moved away and really missed her home state. She reached out to me to request a large Texas landscape. It was a joy to collaborate with her to bring her vision to life. Commissioned artwork for a cherished family member. This painting found it’s home.

Changing Landscape

Changing Landscape

28×22 oil on landscape

I created this in anticipation of spring in Texas. It is sixty days away, if you were wondering! The wildflowers between Ft Worth and Granbury cover the ground like a blanket. It used to be all rural, but over time is being developed. I’ll always cherish the drive to Ft. Worth in the spring time. It is beautiful and always changing.

A Calm Day on the Lake

A Calm Day on the Lake

36x24 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

It is that time of the year when the seagulls winter over on the lake. It is such a treat to see them swoop and sway in the wind. I painted this in the studio from previous visits. When I took a break and went outside, I discovered the neighbors feeding them right outside my studio. More models to paint from. I get excited everytime!

Rabbits Hiding Out

Rabbits Hiding out

36×36

Imagine our surprise with this bunny bounced over to us while out painting. The sweet scent of the wildflowers must have attracted him. We kept our quiet presence and continued painting. By the time he made it to this large canvas, he multiplied. This was painted with the palette knife and colors that make me happy.

Striking Gold

Striking Gold

We seized the day and took advantage of the warmer temperatures yesterday. It started out cold, but we were soon peeling the layers. A few of us got and and captures the alluring golden grasses. Set against the blue skies and water they seemed to pop. Spring in January can’t be beat. Now, bring on the rain because we really need it.

Wildflower Bike Ride

Wildflower Bike Ride

24x30 oil on canvas

Someone in the neighborhood near Tandy Hills rode to the park during the Prairie Festival and casually parked their bike in the wildflowers. We were there for a Plein Air outing and I was busy documenting the beautiful landscape. I saved this image for a studio painting. I loved the warm color of the bike against the cool wildflowers in this springtime scene.

In Reflection

In Reflection

30x24 oil on canvas

This was inspired from an image, my husband took of me on our canal on Lake Granbury. The neighbor’s dock reflecting in the water and colors were lovely. I looked totally awkward so I inserted a new girl and the painting flowed from there.
