Changing Landscape

Changing Landscape

28×22 oil on landscape

I created this in anticipation of spring in Texas. It is sixty days away, if you were wondering! The wildflowers between Ft Worth and Granbury cover the ground like a blanket. It used to be all rural, but over time is being developed. I’ll always cherish the drive to Ft. Worth in the spring time. It is beautiful and always changing.

A Calm Day on the Lake

A Calm Day on the Lake

36x24 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

It is that time of the year when the seagulls winter over on the lake. It is such a treat to see them swoop and sway in the wind. I painted this in the studio from previous visits. When I took a break and went outside, I discovered the neighbors feeding them right outside my studio. More models to paint from. I get excited everytime!

Rabbits Hiding Out

Rabbits Hiding out

36×36

Imagine our surprise with this bunny bounced over to us while out painting. The sweet scent of the wildflowers must have attracted him. We kept our quiet presence and continued painting. By the time he made it to this large canvas, he multiplied. This was painted with the palette knife and colors that make me happy.

Striking Gold

Striking Gold

11×14 oil on canvas

We seized the day and took advantage of the warmer temperatures yesterday. It started out cold, but we were soon peeling the layers. A few of us got and and captures the alluring golden grasses. Set against the blue skies and water they seemed to pop. Spring in January can’t be beat. Now, bring on the rain because we really need it.

Wildflower Bike Ride

Wildflower Bike Ride

24x30 oil on canvas

Someone in the neighborhood near Tandy Hills rode to the park during the Prairie Festival and casually parked their bike in the wildflowers. We were there for a Plein Air outing and I was busy documenting the beautiful landscape. I saved this image for a studio painting. I loved the warm color of the bike against the cool wildflowers in this springtime scene.

In Reflection

In Reflection

30x24 oil on canvas

This was inspired from an image, my husband took of me on our canal on Lake Granbury. The neighbor’s dock reflecting in the water and colors were lovely. I looked totally awkward so I inserted a new girl and the painting flowed from there.

Harry the Heron is spotted on our dock frequently . We caught him fishing from one of our favorite places on the lake.  It’s a good place to catch sand bass.  I was lucky to see him spread his wings and capture his image with my camera.

Comanche Peak Color

Comanche Peak Color

9×12 oil on canvas

I met a few friends at the Lake Baptist Church parking lot to paint. It is one of the highest points in Granbury and has great views of Comanche Peak. There are views all around and many painting opportunities. The weather has been incredible and the fall colors are starting to show. It was fun to get out there and enjoy the opportunity.

With the cooler temperatures, we are starting to get outside to paint. The local nature center provides a great opportunity for inspiration. Snow on the prairie is the star of the landscape now.

We painted at the Nature Center recently. I was please to see the fields covered in a blanket of white. The plant “snow on the prairie” was in full bloom. The early morning sun cast a light on the landscape that glowed.

Roche's Point Lighthouse

Roche’s Point Lighthouse

7x14 oil on canvas

I had the pleasure of painting this iconic lighthouse as a commission. My sister took a cruse through the British Isles and requested a painting for her travel mate.

This is located in entrance to Cork Harbour, Whitegate, County Cork, Ireland. Originally constructed in 1817.

This painting has sold, but I am always open discussing a commission to recreate lasting memorise.

Big Texas Sky

Big Texas Sky

12×12 oil on canvas

I was drawn to this dramatic sky and knew for a long time I would paint it.  I find the changing cloud formation almost abstract and an endless source of inspiration. The small red house is one of my favorites to paint. It is located in a rural area close to home. It has big sky and is surrounded by acres of land.

Wild About Pink

Wild About Pink

12×12 oil on canvas

I created this in the studio after a plein air session at Benbrook Lake. This was in late April and the views were an endless source of inspiration. Our friend Doug, went out before and took photos of the changing landscape. The cluster of hot pink Desert Indian paint brush stood out and needed to be painted.

Victorian Garden

Victorian Garden

10x8 oil on canvas

I was invited to participate in the Secret Garden Tour in Weatherford. This was sponsored by the Chandor Gardens. The house I was assigned to was a charming Victorian home with a large porch, gingerbread trim and white picked fencing. The garden featured pops of color everywhere. I was thrilled when the homeowner’s children joined me with their paints and easels. It was a fun day with a steady stream of visitors.

I was thrilled to sell this painting right off the easel. The person that purchased it, was on the phone with her friend, that grew up in this house. She bought it for her.

Dazzling Display

Dazzling Display

11×14 oil on linen

This was painted on location at Benbrook Lake. It’s a familiar spot and one we frequently go to. Especially in the spring time when the meadow to the lake is filled with beautiful blankets of color. The star of the day was the gaillardia flower, also know as Indian Blanket. We were warned by Doug to bring our cadmium red light and that was all I saw.

Natural Design

Natural Design

12×9 oil on canvas

I met up with friends at Benbrook Lake on Tuesday morning. The forecast called for a sunny day, but when I arrived it was very much gray and cloudy. The gray overcast skies makes the colors sing. Halfway through painting this, the sun broke through the clouds and changed the shadows and color. I was attracted to this natural ditch filled with an array of wildflowers.

We wrapped this up and went to Doug’s house for lunch in the garden. Lunch was followed by a critique session. It is helpful to get feedback and suggestions for improvement.
