First Peak of Spring

First Peak of Spring

11x14 oil on linen

Capturing the warm morning light with early spring flowers inspired this painting. It reminds me of seeing the first peak of spring. The hope of warmer weather and bright color spreading the landscape is coming. May the spring spots of color grab your attention and give you hope for a bright days ahead.

Heron Sighting

Heron Sighting

12x9 oil on linen

Watching the heron fish from my patio is one of the joy’s of lake living. The heron shows me the importance of self-reliance and creating balance in my life. The heron is there to remind me of the contentment that comes with knowing abundance is at my fingertips. They are a sign of good fortune.

Sunrise Mosaic

Sunrise Mosaic

20x16 oil on linen

I have started using small studies as a take off point on new paintings. This was inspired from my painting "Magical Meadow". I'm using a larger palette knife and creating blocks of color in a mosaic pattern. It's a fun process that I am exploring more and more.

A Morning Sunny

A Morning Sunny 14x11 oil on canvas

During the month of February I am highlighting my paintings with Splash of Red.

Wow, this was a fun one to paint. This one seemed to paint itself. This was based on one of my sunrise photos taken on the road to Ft. Worth from Granbury. A lot of the area is undeveloped and pleasing to the soul.

This is available thru Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas.  Dutch Art Gallery Check out the gallery for many options for original art.

New Day's Light

New Day's Light

5x7 Acrylic on canvas

This is a small painting I created exploring the effects using acrylic paints.

I'm using a heavy body paint and I've found I can get some of the texture I like. A beautiful sunrise on the lake is a little bit of heaven on earth. A great place to be.

Early Birds

Early Birds

11x14 oil on gallery wrapped canvas

These fisherman were out early and taking advantage of the opportunity to catch the big one. In the old adage "Red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in the morning sailor's warning".

Jesus said, When in evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: For the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and lowering. (Matthew XVI:2-3)

Poppies in the Sunrise

Poppies in the Sunrise

10x20 oil on canvas

This painting was inspired from a garden on a very busy road. When I saw the bright red poppies, I turned around. This garden also had roses, peonies and small yellow flowers. Add all that and the rising sun was a painting in the makings. Using the palette knife and carving this scene out was a fun exercise.

Sun Block

Sun Block

11x14 oil on canvas

This painting is based on one I created on location in Fredericksburg. I wanted to push it in a different direction. Using the palette knife I blocked in colors building up the layers. I built this one square at a time.
