Heron Sighting

Watching the heron fish from my patio is one of the joy’s of lake living. The heron shows me the importance of self-reliance and creating balance in my life. The heron is there to remind me of the contentment that comes with knowing abundance is at my fingertips. They are a sign of good fortune.

The crepe myrtle trees are a popular choice in southern landscaping because of their long term profusion of color. They seemed to glow in the morning sun and begged me to show them off.

Quite Delight

This was inspired from a hike I went on around Lake Benbrook. It was in the spring time and Rocky Creek Park was our location. Every step we took revealed an incredible display of spring flowers. It was a magical hike through nature with flowers bursting everywhere along the trail.

The Art of Fishing

While painting at the Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens I spotted the egret's frolicking about. Capturing images of the birds fishing I knew a painting was in the making. With a creative approach, I applied the paint with both brush and palette knife in blocks of color.

Blue Retreat

This was painted in the studio. It was inspired from a trip to Hunter Park on Lake Granbury. It started out with a lot of red flowers in it. I decided I wanted to cooI it down a bit. When I added patches of blue and greens, it felt calming. It reminds me to appreciate a simple field of wildflowers and the mood it can set.

Fall is Coming

I had the opportunity to join friends plein air painting at Benbrook Lake this week. When we arrived it the skies were gray and the air was heavy. As soon as we set up and got to work it seem to clear over us. The landscape came alive with the sun peeking thru. Cooler temperatures and the warm palette of the landscape gave me hope fall is coming.

Light Tones

I created this at Benbrook Lake on Wednesday. I met up with friends on the coolest morning we’ve had in a while. The promise was 68 degrees, but in reality it was in the low seventies. It was still a splendid time to be outside painting. Some may see this scene as unappealing, but I found the morning light was casting a warm glow on the landscape.

Hot Summer Sunflowers

My sunflowers are the only thing blooming around here and make the perfect models. Oven like temperatures make painting in the studio a great option. Setting up a still life with light streaming in made this stain glass vase glow. My sunflowers sure brighten the day.
