Hottest Sky 14x18

Hottest Sky 14x18 oil on canvas

This hot sky was witnessed on the road between Granbury and Ft. Worth. It is part of my "drive to work" series.  I'm happy to say this series will continue, but my drive to work will not.  I'm officially retired and looking forward to new opportunities. I will be able to paint to my hearts desire.

Available at Dutch Art Gallery, Dallas, Texas http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com.

Water Lily 30x24

Water Lily Garden 30x24 oil on Canvas

A visit to Clark Gardens in Weatherford, Texas inspired this painting. I painted on location and still have not finished with all the painting ideas from that trip.  It was a hot summer morning and the perfect place to set up my easel. I created a couple while there and use those as color studies. This was painted in the studio using brushes, palette knifes and layers and layers of colorful paint.

Morning Graze 11x14

Morning Graze 11x14 Oil on Canvas

I created this in the studio from a fuzzing photo I took while flying down the highway. For safety reasons I should mention I was a passenger and not driving. The dramatic sky and hint of the cows on the hillside were enough to spark my creative desire.

I love to take breaks from work at the Ft Worth Botanical Gardens. Its a place that restores me and the visit is a nice respite.  This scene is from the spring time and while the red buds were blooming. The small creek bed guides you in to this tranquil scene.

Cotton Candy Clouds, 20x20

Cotton Candy Clouds20x20 oil on canvas

This series of cloud paintings give me an opportunity to play with color and texture in an ordinary landscape.  I push the boundaries and approach the painting in abstract colors and design. I like that.To purchase http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com.

Summer Clouds, New Contemporary Landscape Painting by Sheri Jones

Summer Clouds  11x14 oil on wood panel

I had a lot of fun at my Pop up show at the Pottery Barn recently.  This is the another painting I did while spending time there.  It was inspired from mornings on Lake Granbury.   We love to take the boat out in the early hours of the morning. It is quite and peaceful and a soothing way to way up.  I always feel recharged too!

Cactus with A View 12x16 oil on canvas

The view is from the High Hope Ranch landscape in Glen Rose.  I loved the shapes of the cactus and wonderful distant views. I enhanced the colors and had fun pushing the thick juicy paint around.

Dynamic Morning Display 20x20

Dynamic Morning Display

20x20 oil on canvas

Exploring this rich color combination was exciting.  This intense color in the sky only happens for a brief moment and quickly changes. I used the palette knife to blend the paint together and then to add layers of colorful paint. The texture adds dimension and movement to guide the eye around.

Iris Garden in Bloom 20x24

Iris Garden in Bloom 20x24 oil on canvas

I get excited with I see iris flowers in bloom.  Their delicate colors and petals remind me of my Mother- in-law. She had a large garden of iris of every color.  They lined her front yard and were beautiful.  My inspiration for this was from painting at the Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens in the spring time.

Fascinating Formation

Fascinating Formation 9x12 oil on wood panel

This dramatic sky was screaming paint me, paint me. I find the abstract shapes of the clouds an endless source of inspiration.  I created this on a smooth wood surface, which seemed to soak up the paint. This has many layers of color painted applied with a palette knife.

Dancing Cypress Trees 11x14

Dancing Cypress Trees11x14 oil on canvas

This was created as a color study for a larger piece.  I like to start small and work out color and design before tackling a big canvas.  The location for the inspiration is a farm house in Italy. It was on a drive with Scott Williams and Niki Gulley with Art Treks.  Our first trip with this talented couple.
