Drive to the Light

Drive to the Light 14x11 oil on canvas

I was drawn to the coolness of the landscape and the warm morning light.  The road leads you to the gorgeous morning sunrise and the start of a new day.  This was created using the palette knife, building texture one layer at a time.  To purchase or see more http://www.sherijonesart.com Sheri@sherijonesart.com http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com. Thank you for viewing my art. Sheri Jones

Allure of An Early Morning

Allure of An Early Morning 10x8 oil on cradle panel

The warm winter grasses inspired this painting.  I started this with a quick thumbnail sketch and recorded color notes on the side.  I used a Winsor & Newton paper that is designed for oil paints.  It's a great way to explore color combinations and design.

I will be at Dutch Art Gallery this Saturday, March 9th from 10-2 doing a painting demonstration. Please stop by and check out my process and new paintings.

Gentle Morning Color

Gentle Morning Color 16x20 oil on canvas

I am working on a series of landscape and exploring new color combinations. I love to premix my grays and find complementary colors to compliment them.  I work until the colors on the palette are appealing to me.  After I have piles of paint to work from I begin.

Sunrise on Lake Granbury

Sunrise on Lake Granbury 11x14 gallery wrapped canvas

A gorgeous sunrise is a sign of a great day ahead. This is from the bridge near the marina on Lake Granbury. I love to paint the beautiful skies of the changing light and nature's color.  I posted two videos of the making of this sweet gem on Instagram. Check out the link on my website or find me on IG at Sherijonesart.

Breaking Through the Blues Sky

Breaking Through The Blues 24x18 oil on canvas

This is a spot I drove by every morning on my journey to work. My timing was perfect for the bright morning color and sunrise. I created it using a palette knife. Check out the 3 short video on IG or FB. Sherijonesart.

Sky Movement 12x9

Sky Movement 12x9 oil on wood panel

I wanted to focus on the gorgeous clouds and intensity of color I saw with this sunrise. I am in love with this color combo! I like the hint of the Texas landscape below.  This was a joy to create using the palette and thick paint.

Cloud Light

Cloud Light 16x12 oil on ampersand board

This was a brilliant sunset I witnessed and couldn't resist painting.  Balancing the cool and warm colors was a challenge with this one.  I enjoyed the variety of colors to play with.

Drive to the Sun 11x14

Drive to the Sunny Side 11x14 oil on wood panel

This is the main road in my neighborhood. The morning sun was striking and certainly got my attention when I turned towards it.  I created it in the studio, building the color up layer by layer.

Rosy Glow, 9x12

Rosy Glow 9x12 oil on canvas

This is an older painting that wasn't working for me. I was either going to destroy it or throw more paint at is. I choose to add more color and have fun with the warm colors. Outrageous color is my way of abstracting a landscape.

Morning Tree Light 16x12

Morning Tree Light 16x12 oil on linen panel

Painting on location always sparks my creative drive.  I was painting at the Master's garden in Granbury when I saw this.  The morning light was like a beacon and a painting waiting to happen.  I created this in the studio enjoying the memory.

Early Light 14x11

Early Light 14x11 oil on canvas panel

This landscape was inspired from an area along the bike path in Benbrook, Texas. The painting started from a photo, but soon took on it's on color scheme and design.  I like to use the photos as simply a suggestion and let it develop from there.

Magical Meadow 12x12

Magical Meadow 12x12 oil on canvas

This sunrise painting was inspired from the wild flowers sprinkling the landscape in the early morning light.  It was a joy to witness this great start to the day. I had dreams of painting standing in this beautiful meadow.  Hopefully I will be able to do just that.  It's located outside of the town of Cresson, Texas and off Hwy 377.

Hottest Sky 14x18

Hottest Sky 14x18 oil on canvas

This hot sky was witnessed on the road between Granbury and Ft. Worth. It is part of my "drive to work" series.  I'm happy to say this series will continue, but my drive to work will not.  I'm officially retired and looking forward to new opportunities. I will be able to paint to my hearts desire.

From's Amy Garden 12x9

From Amy's Garden

12x9 oil on wood panel

I snagged more of my neighbor, Amy's sunflowers. I set up this still life in the sun. The heat from the sun will melt the flowers, so I worked fast.  Pre-mix paints and a palette knife help with the process.
