Autumn at Gunn Mountain

I created this after driving out to the Glen Rose area recently. Gunn Mountain in a small range of hills that surround the hunting resort at Rough Creek. It has big open areas that are beautiful to view. The natural grasses were glowing in the morning sun.

Away in a Manger 24x18 oil on canvas

I painted Hula Hut Glow a few years ago and recently pulled in out of the archives.  (see below) I set it out where I could see it and I saw Joseph and hints of a manger. It only took a few strokes to transform this scene.  I really like how it now reflects the birth of Jesus. The reason for the season.

This painting was inspired by a field study and photos.  I wanted to recreate the calming effect a flowing river can have on me.  I used a palette knife adding texture and depth focusing on the contrasting colors.

Autumn's Color Palette

This new painting is inspired from the colorful landscape in my area.  The vibrant colors of fall and shadows of the trees are what caught my eye. The hard surface of the ampersand board provides a nice surface to build up texture using  the palette knife.

Reflections of Autumn 9x12 oil on cradled hardboard panel

This was inspired from painting at this location a few years ago. It was fun to revisit this small stream in the Glen Rose area. The fall colors reflecting in the water is what made me want to paint this little gem.

Our fall weather has been a roller coaster of temperatures. I try to take advantage of the warmer days and get out and paint. My friend Jill and I went to one or our favorite locations and captured the fall colors. Comanche Peak is the highest point around here and provides plenty of painting opportunities.
